Beware, You're Being Robbed – Planned Obsolescence

Beware, You're Being Robbed – Planned Obsolescence

A few days ago, we celebrated the news that our agent had performed maintenance and upgrades on three Full Edition queue management systems, despite them being 13 years old.

As management, we were about to announce this and hold a small celebration when we received an alert and an urgent Zoom meeting request from the company overseeing our marketing plans.

The meeting's focus was that what we were doing was a crime against ourselves and our competitors.
The lifespan of any electronic system, "from their perspective," shouldn't exceed five years, otherwise the market will quickly reach saturation, and we'll find ourselves out of business.

I had read a lot about what's called planned obsolescence, but it remained in my mind like a myth.
I wasn't convinced that a reputable company would discontinue servicing its products for any reason.

I was surprised to learn more about planned obsolescence that most major industrialized countries consider it legal, with the exception of French law.
French law defines planned obsolescence as a set of techniques through which manufacturers intentionally reduce the lifespan of a product to increase sales.
Article 992 of 2015 criminalizes companies that engage in this practice, imposing penalties of up to two years imprisonment and a fine of 5% of the company's sales.

People have the right to maintenance and repairs, and not only that, but they also have the right to access the latest available updates.
In my opinion, planned obsolescence and any similar policy deplete resources and harm the environment, not to mention the harm it inflicts on the consumer.

Why choose Q-Linker systems that resist obsolescence?

At Q-Linker, we believe that true technology serves humanity and preserves its resources. Therefore, our design philosophy transcends mere instant sales, embodying the concept of "green investment."

We don't manufacture devices that expire with the warranty period. Instead, we create systems based on open architecture, allowing you to upgrade software and enhance hardware performance without replacing the entire system.

Choosing Q-Linker systems means you're directly contributing to reducing e-waste. Instead of accumulating old devices in the trash every few years due to programmed failures or lack of updates, we provide you with long-lasting solutions that evolve as your business grows.

We transform the equation of "rapid consumption" into "smart sustainability," protecting your budget from the drain of constant replacements and safeguarding our planet from technological pollution. Your investment with us becomes a winning one for you and for the future.
